Normandy is indissociably linked to the breeding of competitive and leisure horses. The Pays d’Auge area, where many champions were born and bred, is one of the areas with the most stud farms for its size in the world. Founded by Louis XIV, the Haras du Pin is the oldest and most prestigious stud farm in France.
At “Le Pin” National Stud Farm, approximately 30 stallions, representing ten different breeds, stand at stud. This area is the “birthplace” of four breeds which gained their French origins here. They remain prominent at Le Pin, namely the Percheron, the Thoroughbred, which was imported to France from England by the gentry, the French Trotter and the French Saddle Horse, more commonly known as the “Selle Français”.
